Matthew Collins, the 22nd of October 2026
On the UK stores we look after, delivery questions fill the inbox in November. Will it arrive while I'm at work? Can I collect it instead? A missed parcel turns a sale into a customer service ticket.
Shopify now offers Royal Mail pickup points at checkout. Since the 15th of October 2026, UK shoppers can collect their order from a Post Office branch or a Royal Mail Customer Service Point. They see each location's name, address, opening hours and price before they commit. You switch it on per location in your shipping settings and set your own rate.
What did Shopify change?
The changelog entry adds Royal Mail as a pickup point provider across the UK. Shoppers pick a location from a map or a list during checkout.
Shopify's Royal Mail help page adds a few details.
- Pickup delivery uses Royal Mail's Local Collect service, on Tracked 24 and Tracked 48.
- There are two kinds of location. Post Office branches across the UK, and Royal Mail delivery offices where customers can collect items.
- You can't choose which kind of location a parcel goes to. The customer picks.
- If nobody collects the parcel, Royal Mail holds it for 18 days before returning it to you.
Who does it suit?
It suits UK stores selling to consumers who aren't home in the day. Gifts, clothing and smaller parcels are the obvious fit. Shoppers who live in flats, or who'd rather not have a parcel left on a doorstep, often prefer a collection point.
It also gives you another delivery choice to price. Some stores will offer pickup as a cheaper option than home delivery. Others will make it free to nudge customers towards it.
To use Royal Mail labels through Shopify, you need a fulfilment location based in the UK. Shopify lists a 20 kg maximum weight and 61 cm maximum length for Royal Mail domestic parcels. Check your bulkier products against those limits before you promise pickup on them.
How do you set it up?
The changelog sets out the steps. It takes a few minutes per location.
- In the Shopify admin, go to Settings, then Shipping and delivery.
- Under additional delivery methods, open Pickup points.
- Choose a UK location and turn on shipping to pickup points from it.
- Edit the rate to include Royal Mail and set what you charge.
Shopify's pickup points help page explains the rate options. You can set a flat rate, or a rate based on weight or order price. Enter 0 to make it free.
Pickup point zones follow the shipping zones on that fulfilment location. If you change those zones, you change where pickup points appear. Shopify also notes that pickup points only sync with your managed shipping setup, not with app-managed shipping profiles.
What are the limits worth knowing?
The pickup points help page lists several rules that change who sees the option. Test each one on your own store before you announce it.
- Every physical product in the cart has to ship from one location. That location needs enough stock for the whole order.
- Shoppers who start with Apple Pay, Google Pay, Amazon Pay or PayPal won't see pickup points.
- Pickup points aren't offered to customers checking out as B2B customers.
- Full pickup points are hidden at checkout until they have room again.
- Orders using a carrier pickup point can't be edited after they're placed.
The accelerated checkout point matters most. On many stores, a large share of mobile orders start with an express button. Those shoppers won't see the new option, so don't expect every customer to find it.
What does it mean for B2B and blended stores?
If you run trade and retail in one store, your trade buyers won't see Royal Mail pickup at checkout. That's usually fine. Trade orders tend to be larger, and buyers expect delivery to their premises on agreed terms.
The thing to check is your messaging. If a homepage banner promises "collect from your local Post Office", make sure it only shows to retail shoppers. Our guide to running B2B and DTC in one store or two covers how to keep the two journeys separate.
If your trade customers want to collect, a trade counter or warehouse pickup is a better fit. Shopify Plus stores can let a buyer ship and pick up in one order.
Should you switch it on before Black Friday?
Black Friday falls on the 27th of November 2026. Pickup points change checkout and shipping settings, which are the things we'd freeze in peak week. Our Black Friday code freeze checklist explains why.
So if you want it for peak, set it up now. Then work through these checks while trading is normal.
- Place a test order to a Post Office and to a Customer Service Point.
- Check the rate shows as you expect beside your home delivery rates.
- Try checkout with a cart that ships from two locations, and confirm what the shopper sees.
- Buy a label and confirm the parcel and service are right.
- Update your delivery page and order emails, including the 18 day collection window.
If anything looks wrong, you've still got time to fix it calmly. If you can't test it before the freeze, leave it for January.
Where Parallel Commerce helps
We look after live Shopify stores every month, including checkout and delivery settings. Our Shopify support packages start at £400 a month with Maintain, which includes two hours of fixes each month. Optimise, at £1,000 a month, ships two improvements a month with a performance report.
If you'd like pickup points set up and tested before peak, book a call. We'll check your shipping zones, rates and checkout, and make sure it works for every customer who should see it.
