The number people want is a single figure. The honest one is a range. For the migrations and builds we take on, that range is £20,000 to £35,000, plus a monthly retainer once the store is live.
That is the project, not the Shopify bill. Shopify's own subscription sits on top. We do not dress the platform fee up as our fee.
What sits at each end
A focused catalogue, a clean export and a theme the team can merchandise lands toward £20,000. You are protecting URLs, customers and orders, and launching a store that is fit to trade.
£35,000 is the other end. Wholesale price lists, an ERP such as Business Central, and years of product data that cannot be pasted across. The extra money is mapping and rehearsal, not a more expensive theme.
If the export is a database dump from a custom platform, discovery takes longer before anyone can price the build tightly. We still start from that same range and say what would push it.
What the fee is actually for
The costly part is rarely the import button. It is the work around it.
- A URL map and one-to-one redirects, so search equity is not dumped on the homepage.
- Customer history that arrives intact, with a plan for passwords that cannot move.
- Catalogue structure a merchandiser can run without a developer.
- Checkout, tax and the first real orders rehearsed before DNS changes.
- The ERP or warehouse link, when the store is not the system of record.
A cheap migration skips that list. The site launches. Rankings, trade prices or the warehouse feed show the gap in the first fortnight.
The retainer is part of the number
Launch week is not the end. Redirect gaps, a tax edge case and the first campaign all show up after go live.
Support starts at £400 a month and runs to £2,000. Growth, when you want senior commercial direction in the same monthly fee, starts at £3,000. The project range assumes you will be on one of those, not on a handover email and silence.
How to get a figure for your store
Send the store URL. We will tell you which end of the range you are in, and the three things the migration has to protect. That is a written review, not a call.
The longer checklist for a Magento move is in the Magento to Shopify migration checklist. Platform-by-platform notes sit on the migrations page.
