Shopify growth subscription or an in-house developer

A Shopify growth subscription or an in-house developer. What the monthly fee covers, what clients say about staying, and when a hire is the better call.

Growth

Matthew Collins, the 29th of September 2026

A store with a backlog usually has two options. Hire a developer, or keep a senior team on a monthly fee. Growth starts at £3,000 a month. It is the second path.

The fee is less than the cost of one in-house developer, once you count salary, tools and cover. You also get a conversion review each month, not only someone to build what you ask for. The limit is speed. We work one task at a time, or two on Growth Plus.

What clients say about staying

These lines are from published reviews. They are about work that continued after launch. They are not a claim that each client is on this subscription.

Grant Rennie, Director at Fáilte Foods, wrote: "Since the launch, we have continued to collaborate with parallel on optimising our store, enhancing customer retention, and driving online sales." He also wrote: "Their blend of technical expertise and commercial acumen has made them an indispensable part of our digital growth."

Wayne Collins, Director at Star Action Figures, wrote: "We've been impressed enough that we've continued working with parallel after the launch to help us develop the site further." He also wrote: "Any snags we've needed have been dealt with quickly, and he's always been available to talk through ideas and suggest better ways of doing things."

Samuel, Commerce director at Surrey Cricket Club, wrote: "It was great to deal with someone from start to finish." He also wrote: "I am looking forward to using the ongoing support to gain better knowledge from them!" The club moved onto a support retainer after the migration.

Those reviews describe what a monthly team has to earn. The same person stays close to the store. Fixes do not start with a fresh quote. Someone will challenge the next idea, not only build it.

What you get for the fee

Growth is £3,000 a month. Growth Plus is £5,500 a month, for Shopify Plus and higher volume stores.

Both plans include the same four parts.

  • Unlimited requests, worked one at a time, or two at a time on Growth Plus.
  • Most tasks delivered in one to three business days, once we start them.
  • A conversion review against a KPI baseline set in onboarding.
  • Direct access for advice between tasks, with no account manager in between.

There is no lock-in. You can pause or cancel with 30 days notice. A three month commitment waives the £950 onboarding audit on Growth. The audit is included on Growth Plus.

A task is anything we can finish in about a day. A new product section, a cart block, an app conflict, a slow template or a GA4 setup. Larger jobs are split and shipped in order. Work of about a week or more, such as a redesign or a new integration, is quoted as a project.

When a hire is the better call

Hire when that person needs to sit inside the business every day. A subscription will not replace a colleague who owns internal tools, the warehouse and the store at once.

Hire, or brief a project, when the job is a new build, a replatform or a large integration. Those sit outside Growth. We quote them separately. The support packages are the lighter monthly option when the store is stable and the backlog is short. The note on when to move from support to Growth walks through that choice.

Stay with Growth when the store already trades, traffic is steady, and the list of improvements is longer than a couple of jobs a month.

Where parallel helps

Plans, turnaround and what counts as a task are on the Growth subscription page. If you are choosing between a hire and a monthly team, book a call. Tell us what is on the list. We will say which plan fits, or when a hire is the cleaner answer.

If you would rather write it down, send a brief through Start.

Tell us where you are stuck.

The messier the commerce problem, the more useful we are. Book a call or send the brief.
